Upon starting your journey in Starfield and entering the character creation menu, you will encounter a trait selection screen. The very first trait on this list is called Alien DNA, which features some interesting properties. Without further ado, continue reading to learn if the Alien DNA trait is worth selecting in Starfield!
Should You Pick the Alien DNA Trait in Starfield?
It depends. If you are planning to play a more peaceful role in Starfield, the Alien DNA trait is a good option for you. If you are looking to get into combat scenarios and take a lot of damage, the healing and food item reduction that comes from Alien DNA will be quite troublesome.
I personally picked the Alien DNA trait as I plan to become a peaceful space trader with allies across the galaxy. I’m already finding myself with a surplus of healing items, and I don’t plan on having to use them very often. The Oxygen bonus that comes with the Alien DNA is quite noticeable and will allow you to sprint, jump, and explore longer distances on foot.
Additionally, the Alien DNA trait grants a sizable health increase as well, which will make you more tanky during your inevitable encounters with combat. Of course, it will require more healing items to get back to max health, but it’ll keep you in the fight longer.

However, I would assume that most Starfield players will want to be shooting and slicing as many enemies as possible. If this is the case for you, I would avoid the Alien DNA trait, as it will make your healing items noticeably less effective.
