There are several occasions where players must locate a spade during the prologue in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Depending on the quest, the spade can be a bit tricky to track down. In this guide, we’ll help you find a spade (shovel) during two different quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the Homecoming quest and the Good Thief quest.
Where to Find a Spade in Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Finding the spade in Kingdom Come: Deliverance will allow you to unlock tutorials for lockpicking and pickpocketing. The game doesn’t tell you where to find a spade, so you’ll have to just be vigilant and try to search the area for a spade yourself when needed.
Where to Find a Spade in the Homecoming Quest
One of the first times you’ll need to find a spade in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is during the Homecoming quest, which occurs relatively early in the game. After escaping Talmberg Castle, a cutscene will occur, marking the start of the Homecoming quest.
Once you return to Skalitz, you’ll need to locate a spade to bury a pair of bodies. Listen for the sound of a barking dog, along with another man’s voice. The dog is located toward the center of the village near a burned building.
Head toward the dog, and you’ll encounter another familiar villager trying to loot the dog’s owner’s body. Have a civil chat, but if things go south, be ready for a fist fight. Afterward, you’ll find the spade sticking up from the ground beside the dog. Grab the spade and return to the linden tree to finish the quest.
Where to Find a Spade in The Good Thief Quest
Following the Homecoming quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, you’ll begin a quest called The Good Thief, which tasks you with obtaining another spade. To start The Good Thief quest, simply talk to Miller Peshek in Rattay Mill, the man who took you in after the Homecoming quest.
During a brief conversation with Miller Peshek, he’ll ask you to snag a ring off a body buried in the village cemetery. You’ll need another spade to get the job done, and he tells you that there should be one around the mill somewhere.
After chatting with Peshek, head toward the barn near the wooden log pile. You’ll find the spade propped up on the side of the nearby wooden cart. Grab the spade and make your way to Gallow Hill to continue with The Good Thief quest. When you eventually are given lockpicks during this quest, make sure to save your game so that you can reload with fresh lockpicks if they break.
