San Diego Studio has teamed up with the families of players formally of the Negro League, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM), and NLBM President Bob Kendrick, who will narrate the informative history stories in the newest game mode coming on MLB The Show 23.
MLB The Show 23: What is the Negro Leagues?
One of the many new features coming with MLB The Show 23 is the Negro Leagues. The Negro Leagues offer all players a chance to go back in time and learn about a significant period in baseball history.

The Negro Leagues will be accessible in the new game mode, Storylines, an entire narrative journey with informational videos and gameplay of special moments of a specific player’s playing career. It will see the introduction of legendary players from the Negro Leagues.

Focused on a particular player, users will experience an entertaining narrative journey through short informational videos, followed by gameplay reflecting important moments in that player’s career.”

In the informational videos, you will learn about these players’ histories, what struggles and hurdles they had to overcome during their time, and what made them unique as baseball players. Once in-game, you’ll play as that player and re-enact that particular historical moment.
First MLB The Show Release: Storylines Season 1
The dev team will introduce the Negro League players in stages and do so year-by-year, title-by-title. These players, women and men, who are being introduced, are mostly unknown and will finally be given the platform to show them off to the rest of the world.

The initial release of Season 1 will see eight Negro League players introduced into the MLB The Show franchise, making history.
These Negro League Players Are:
- Buck O’Neil
- Hilton Smith
- Hank Thompson
- John Donaldson
- Jackie Robinson
- Martin Dihigo
- Rube Foster
- Leroy “Satchel” Paige
The perfect gesture added to this new feature is that MLB and San Diego Studio will donate $1 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum with every copy sold in the US of the Captain and Digital Deluxe Edition.
It’s the perfect way to honour the baseball heroes who triumphed in the face of adversity.
As stated by the NLBM President Bob Kendrick: “Take you back to the Negro Leagues and introduce you to some of the baddest brothers and sisters to ever play this game.”
