PlayStation has announced new games for Plus Essential for the month of August 2023. After last month’s great lineup, the titles for August may not be that groundbreaking, but there are certainly a couple of unexpected titles on the list that most players probably missed that are worth checking out.
Free Games Included in PlayStation Plus Essential (August 2023)
All PlayStation Plus Essential service subscribers will be able to claim the following three games free of charge during the month of August (starting from Tuesday, August 1) and get to play them for as long as their minimum Plus subscription is active.
- PGA Tour 2K23 (PS5, PS4)
- Death’s Door (PS5, PS4)
- Dreams (PS4)
PGA Tour 2K23
If you don’t golf, that’s okay, you can be a tiger anyway – with PGA Tour 2K23! Did you know we currently have two PGA Tour games going head-to-head? EA Sports has a license, but so does 2K, so we have EA Sports PGA Tour 2023 and PGA Tour 2K23 – not confusing at all! So, this month with Plus, you get the latter, the 2K’s version that diehard virtual golf fans believe to be a slightly inferior version, but hey, that shouldn’t stop you from having some golfing fun, especially if you haven’t played these types of games in a long time.
Death’s Door
Death’s Door is the obligatory indie title in this month’s offer. It’s a charming little isometric 3D action-adventure game where you play as a Crow that is also a Reaper basically death itself; you go collecting souls in another take on the bureaucratic afterlife.

Dreams
Initially released in early 2020 exclusively for PlayStation 4, Dreams was well… something else. Half game, half video game creation tool, this ambitious project by Media Molecule (authors of Little Big Planet) was initially met with praise and high ratings, but somehow it quickly disappeared from the mainstream radar. But, even today, you will be amazed when you see what many creative users have managed to create with this tool. The only downside is that it still doesn’t have real full support for the PlayStation 5.
And that would be it for August 2023, what do you think of this list? Will you be playing any of these titles?
