Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024: Date and Time
The Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024 event Dragons Unleashed will take place starting from Monday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. No need to do any timezone conversions; these are all adhering to local time.
Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024: Drampa Debut
The dual Normal- and Dragon-type Pokemon Drampa will make its Pokemon GO debut when the Lunar New Year 2024 event begins. Drampa’s shiny coloration will also be made available simultaneously, so it will be possible to find a lucky golden one right off the bat.

Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024: Event Bonuses
To align with a lucky New Year, the following event bonuses will be in effect during the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024 event:
- An increased chance for Lucky Pokemon in trades.
- An increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
- Catching Pokemon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws will yield additional Candy.
- (Trainers level 31 and above:) An increased chance to get Candy XL when catching a Pokemon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024: Dragons Unleashed Global Challenge
A Global Challenge will also be active during the Lunar New Year 2024 event. So far, the rewards (besides in-game fireworks) for making 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws have only been hinted at. The following tables provide what information we know.
Dragons Unleashed Global Challenge Rewards: Featured Attacks
Part of the Global Challenge’s rewards include evolving certain Pokemon during the Lunar New Year 2024 event to have them learn a featured attack. The following table includes all known information about the Pokemon and featured attacks.

Dragons Unleashed Global Challenge Rewards: Wild Pokemon Encounters
Seven more Pokemon will have an increased encounter rate in the wild if the Global Challenge is completed. Six of these Pokemon are available in their shiny coloration, and one is not. It is currently unknown what these Pokemon are or their types are.
Dragons Unleashed Global Challenge Rewards: Raid Pokemon
If the Global Challenge is completed, one additional Pokemon will appear in one-star raids, and one additional Pokemon will appear in three-star raids. It’s not clear what Pokemon these will be, but we do know that the one-star raid Pokemon cannot be encountered as a shiny, while the three-star raid Pokemon can be encountered as a shiny.
Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2024: Paid Timed Research
An event-exclusive paid Timed Research will be available to purchase during the Lunar New Year 2024 event. There is currently no indication of free Timed Research during the event, so the paid Timed Research will likely be the only way to access the tasks and obtain the rewards.
The paid Timed Research rewards will include:
- Stardust,
- XP,
- Two (2) Lucky Eggs,
- and encounters with event-themed Pokemon.
The paid Timed Research can be purchased from the in-game store for $2 (USD), or the player’s equivalent price tier in their local currency. Poke Coins cannot be used to purchase paid Timed Research. Paid Timed Research can also be paid for and gifted to any in-game friends as long as the player’s rank is Great Friend or higher.
Paid Timed Research will expire when the Lunar New Year 2024 ends, on Sunday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Any unclaimed rewards will disappear at this time.
