The first Mega Water-Type has arrived with a big splash! But if you want to tackle Mega Blastoise, you’re going to need to be properly equipped. Here’s your Pokemon GO Mega Blastoise weaknesses, counters, and best moves guide.
Pokemon GO: Mega Blastoise Weaknesses, Counters and Best Moves Guide
Mega Blastoise is a force to be reckoned with. Not only are starter Pokemon generally strong, despite being mono-typed, but as a Mega Pokemon, this turtle is supercharged.
Fortunately, we have plenty of options to counter it. As a pure Water-Type Pokemon, Mega Blastoise is weak to Grass and Electric moves. That gives us some interesting Pokemon to choose from when it comes to countering it.
Here are the best options, with the first being the most effective and the last being the least effective.
- Kartana with Razor Leaf and Leaf Blade
- Xurkitree with Thunder Shock and Discharge
- Mega Manectric with Thunder Fang and Wild Charge
- Shadow Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Shadow Zapdos with Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt
- Shadow Magnezone with Spark and Wild Charge
- Shadow Electivire with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Shadow Tangrowth with Vine Whip and Power Whip
- Mega Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant
- Zekrom with Charge Beam and Fusion Bolt
- Shadow Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Thunderbolt

While Shadow and Mega Pokemon are naturally the most effective turtle slayers, selecting any Pokemon with an Electric or Grass STAB move and resistance to Water damage is a good idea.
Best Moves for Mega Blastoise in Pokemon GO
Once you’ve brought Blastoise to heel, you’ll want to get the best moveset possible on it.
For both offense and defense, the ideal move set is the same:
- Water Gun
- Hydro Cannon (Elite TM)
But if you don’t have an Elite TM, you can swap Hydro Cannon with Hydro Pump if you intend for Mega Blastoise to be offensive or Ice Beam if you intend for it to be defensive. It all depends on how you intend to play this turtle.
