Each of the three major colony worlds in Starfield has their own unique faction. And for New Atlantis, Jemison, that faction is the United Colonies. A highly bureaucratic, military-focused force that seems to be permanently decked out in SWAT gear. Which leads to the question, should you join the United Colonies in Starfield?
Starfield: Should You Join the United Colonies? – Answered
One of the first factions you’ll encounter in MAST District is the United Colonies. And its impression is lukewarm at best. But don’t let that put you off. You should absolutely join the United Colonies.
And that’s for a myriad of reasons. First, you can join all the factions in Starfield without consequence. Doing so will give you access to that faction’s side quest, which is a sprawling chain of missions that leads to credits, excellent loot, and a well-written arc.
Completing the Freestar Ranger Quest will give you a free ship. But completing the United Colonies mission will give you access to one of the best houses in the game. For free! It’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, two balconies, one office space, and laundry room affair. This is the perfect space to keep all your loot and resources, and there’s ample room to set up your own workshop.

Likewise, you’ll become a Class One Citizen, which means you’ll get a permanent discount in all shops in New Atlantis. This is great, because New Atlantis has every shop you could need, from resources to weapons.
It’s also an excellent jump point for learning about the other factions and the history between them.
But just because you should join doesn’t mean that completing that quest will be easy. It will absolutely test your combat prowess and force you to make some difficult decisions. To that end, you’ll want to have a good companion by your side. Fortunately, there are at least 30 to choose from.
