The Widow’s Court is a convoluted maze of a place. But it’s not without its secrets. Including the Ornate Lockbox, which can only be found by tumbling through an invisible wall. But once you have the Ornate Lockbox in Remnant 2, should you open it?
Should You Open the Ornate Lockbox in Remnant 2?
If you’re here, you’ve likely found the Ornate Lockbox hidden behind the illusory wall near the river in The Widow’s Court of Yaesha. And if you’ve found that, it’s also likely that you’ve found the Ornate Key, beside the dead Pan guard. If you haven’t found the key, look around the first half of the map. I’ve found that it most often spawns before you get to the river section.
Now, here comes the decision. The letter beside the dead Pan guard with the Ornate Key urges them to not open the Ornate Lockbox. Instead, they urge you to return the box to the Red Empress. But should you? Both paths lead to a different series of rewards.
If You Open the Ornate Lockbox in Remnant 2
If you opt to open it, you’ll find the Thaen Seed. This seed can then be given to the Red Queen at the Red Throne for the Burden of the Rebel Ring. Pan Warriors will also become friendly to you.
Burden of the Rebel | Reduces Skill Cooldowns by 15% but reduces Relic Use Speed by 25%. |
Or you can opt to plant the Thaen Seed in Ward 13. It will eventually grow into a tree that will bear ‘Mature Thaen Fruit’. These fruits are some of the best consumables in the game. After consuming a Mature Thaen Fruit, upon death the hero will be revived at 30% health and be immune to STATUS effect for 30s.
Letting the fruit age, which might be done by leaving the fruit on the tree, can make it more powerful.
If You Don’t Open the Lock Box
If you choose to bring the Ornate Lockbox straight to the Red Queen, she’ll give you the Red Doe Sigil.
Red Doe Sigil | Increases Relic Healing Effectiveness by 30% which doubles when the wearer’s Health is below 50%. |
But there’s more to this Sigil than meets the eye. Take the Sigil to the statue of the Red Doe fighting the Ravager in The Widow’s Court. My statue spawned to the right of the fog gate that led to the next area. So, the very end of The Widows’ Court.
If you have the Red Doe Sigil, equip it. The floor will open, revealing a new chamber. Inside this chamber is the Rotten Thaen Fruit. Open your inventory and inspect the rotten hole in it, then interact with it. Doing so will reveal the Ghost Shell Mutator.

Ghost Shell | After 3 consecutive Weakspot Hits, increase the damage of the next Weakspot Hit by 20%. Level 10: Increases Weakspot Critical Chance by 15%. |
The Ghost Shell Mutator is significantly better than the Red Doe Sigil, which makes the choice between it and the Mature Thane Fruit much harder! Personally, I opted for the Mutator. You’ll spend more time doing damage than dying, and that 20% bonus is significant for bosses.
