Stardew Valley has several eligible bachelors and bachelorettes that you can get to know and even share life on the farm with if all things go well. But wooing someone is no easy feat, even in Stardew Valley. If you’ve got your eye on Alex but are struggling to find things he likes or you don’t know where to find him, we have included everything you need to know here.
Where to Find Alex in Stardew Valley
To cultivate a relationship with any of the villagers in Stardew Valley, you have to talk to them, give them gifts, or invite them to go to the movies with you if you have unlocked the movie theatre. Doing any of those things requires you to find Alex first. Each villager in Stardew Valley has their own personality, life, and schedule. That can make them difficult to track down.
Alex enjoys things like sports and wellness and also has a part-time job at the ice cream stand and the Spa, so he can often be found at those places. Here is a run-down of where you can find Alex in each season:
Spring and Fall: Alex often lifts weights in his room and hangs out by the dog house near the Stardrop Saloon.
Summer: In Summer, Alex spends most of his time at the Beach and the Ice-Cream Stand near the Museum. He still lifts weights in his room in the evening and when it’s raining.
Winter: In Winter, Alex spends a lot of his time at the Spa on the northern side of Pelican Town, his room, and the Dog House.
On Wednesdays, Alex visits Haley at her house in all seasons unless you have more than six friendship hearts with her.
Gifts to Give Alex in Stardew Valley
Alex is one of the pickier villagers in Stardew Valley, and there are a lot of things he doesn’t like. Giving a villager a gift that they dislike or hate can make you lose hearts with them, so making sure you know what people like is very important when forming relationships.
Alex’s birthday is on the 13th of Summer, so make sure you don’t forget to give him a gift on that day to earn extra points!
Alex’s Loved Gifts
Alex enjoys all of the universally loved gifts, such as Prismatic Shards, Rabbit’s Feet, Golden Pumpkins, Magic Rock Candy, and Pearls. Apart from that, he only loves to get the Complete Breakfast, Salmon Dinner, and the Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Thick book you can get from the Bookseller or in Mystery Boxes.
Alex’s Liked Gifts
Alex likes many of the universally liked gifts, such as all gems, artisan goods, and vegetables you’ve grown on your farm. Apart from that, he likes eggs, including Dinosaur Eggs, Parrot Eggs, and Field Snacks. The only exception to this is Void Eggs because he thinks they look evil. He’s not wrong.
Alex’s Neutral Gifts
Alex has a neutral reaction to universally neutral gifts like Duck Feathers and books (except Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Thick)
Alex’s Disliked and Hated Gifts
When it comes to giving things to Alex, make sure to avoid Salmonberry, Wild Horseradish, Quartz, and Holly. He also dislikes Void Eggs and all universally disliked and hated gifts. Those include things like bait, fossils, monster loot, trash, fish, minerals, fish, fertilizer, and decoration items like fences and paths, geodes, and tackle.
What Movies Does Alex Like in Stardew Valley?
Once you complete the Community Center and unlock the Movie Theatre, you will be able to invite villagers to go and see a movie with you. Taking someone to the movies is a brilliant source of friendship points, but villagers have particular movies they like or dislike. Taking a villager to a movie they hate is detrimental, so you will want to avoid taking Alex to Natural Wonders.
He does love It Howls in the Rain and Wumbus, however, so if you ever see those two movies playing at the Theatre, that is a great time to take Alex. His favorite snacks from the Concession Stand are Salmon Burgers and Stardrop Sorbet, so make sure you pick up some of those to earn even more friendship points from your date.
Alex’s Heart Events in Stardew Valley
As your relationship with Alex progresses, you will be able to experience heart events with him. There are seven heart events in total to share with Alex, one of which offers you a dialogue choice that can affect the number of friendship points received (or lost) in the event. Here are all of Alex’s heart events, where to go to trigger them, and what you should say during the encounters.
Alex’s Two Heart Event
When you reach two hearts with Alex, head down to the beach during a sunny summer day to trigger your first heart event. There, he will share with you his goal to become a professional Gridball player. There is no dialogue option you need to look out for in this encounter.
Alex’s Four Heart Event
When you reach four hearts with Alex, head into the town center during the daytime between 9 AM to 4 PM to see a cutscene where Alex is opening up to the local dog, Dusty, about his past. There is no dialogue option you need to look out for in this encounter.
Alex’s Five Heart Event
When you reach five hearts with Alex, visit him at his home when he is there. He will open up to you about how he isn’t book-smart and feels insecure about it. There are three ways you can respond to this:
- “That’s crazy. You’re a genius!” = No effect.
- “We all have our strengths and weaknesses.” = +50 friendship points.
- “Worthless? Yeah, that about sums it up.” = -50 friendship points.
Alex’s Six Heart Event
Head to Alex’s house when he’s home to trigger his six heart event. There, he will open up to you more about his goals as a professional Gridball player and how he has doubts that it will work out. There is no dialogue option you need to look out for in this encounter.
Alex’s Eight Heart Event
Once you reach eight hearts with Alex, you can start officially dating him. You will also be able to trigger his eight heart event by making your way to the beach on a sunny day when he’s there to hear him talk about missing his mom. There are no dialogue options you need to look out for in this encounter.
Alex’s Ten Heart Event
You can only see this heart event if you are officially dating Alex. But since this is a guide to befriending and romancing Alex, dating him is something you may want to do. If so, you will receive a letter in the mail from Alex inviting you on a date. Visit the Stardrop Saloon at the time Alex specifies to find out he has feelings for you.
Alex’s Fourteen Heart Event
This event will only be triggered if you marry Alex. Otherwise, relationships are capped at ten hearts. The last heart event with Alex is the hardest to trigger, as it does have several requirements that need to be met. First, you need to leave the house before 8:20 AM on any day except Sunday and have a spare 5000g in the bank. Alex will ask you for 5000g to set up a Gridball room at the Stardrop Saloon.
