Stardew Valley has been around for a bit on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. But now the game has finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch, and fans can now dive into the farming goodness of Stardew Valley—even while on the go. Since so many players will be picking the game up for the first time, we wanted to go over a few Stardew Valley tips that we think are important for all new players to know. Stardew Valley Beginner Tips
Starting off in Stardew Valley can be a bit overwhelming. Not only do you have to juggle energy, but you also have to make sure you’re talking to people, building your farm up, and always trying to earn money in some way so that you can continue expanding your farm. We’ve already covered how to upgrade your farm and farmhouse, as well gone over ten things you shouldn’t do in your first year, but now let’s dive into a few helpful things that will assist you as you make your first entrance into the pleasant little stretch of land known as Stardew Valley.
Show Tool Hit Location
One of the first things we recommend every new player do is explore the options and menus in Stardew Valley. You’ll be making use of these menus quite a bit, so it’s best to go ahead and get an idea of how they work. One particular option we’d recommend to new players is the ‘Always Show Tool hit Location’ option, which you can tick on from the Options menu in the game.
To find the Options menu, simply press the + sign on the Nintendo Switch, and then using the left thumbstick, make your way over to the controller icon. Click A here, and you should be taken to a list of different options that you can customize. The fourth option down is the one you’re looking for, and you’ll want to tick it to make sure the tool location is always shown on the screen.
This makes it so that a red square appears on the ground tile that you have currently selected, allowing you to better see where your tool will hit. This can keep you from accidentally destroying something you weren’t planning on destroying, which is very helpful as you expand your farm.
Check the TV Everyday
As you start exploring the world of Stardew Valley and you continue to expand your farm, you’re going to find that each day brings new adventures, weather, and even fortunes for those in the world around you. A good way to keep track of all this information is to make sure you are checking the television in your house every morning. This will tell you what the forecast for the next day is, allowing you to plan your actions ahead of time. You’ll also be able to check your fortune. This will tell you if your luck is good, bad, or even in-between.
We’d suggest making sure you check your fortune before you enter any kind of mines or go exploring, as you won’t find any good items on bad fortune days, which means you’ll be wasting your time in the mines.
Go to Sleep Early
It can be tempting to stay up late and crank energy item to keep working in Stardew Valley. After all, who doesn’t want to expand their farm and grow up their assets as quickly as possible. You should always be careful when doing this, though, as your character will automatically pass out after 2AM in the morning. Not to mention, staying awake later than midnight in the game will cause you to have a much lower energy reserve the next day. So, instead of taking an energy hit—or even passing out from exhaustion—try to make sure you go to bed earlier, allowing you to wake up feeling extra rested and refreshed.
