Growing crops is one of the biggest undertakings you will have as a farmer in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. In the beginning, there will only be a small selection of crops you can grow. However, once you meet Vinnie, you can not only create hybrids but also mix those hybrids together to create hybrids of hybrids. Suddenly, the number of unique crops dramatically increases, and your two small fields are both not enough and cannot sustain the rare hybrids. You’ll want to unlock the third field. It can be pretty finicky, so I have compiled a list of the best tips to help you unlock the third field in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
How to Get the Third Field in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
There are two camps of people regarding Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Those that easily unlock the third field during natural story progression, and those, like me, who do not and cannot figure out why it didn’t work.
The general consensus is that you will need the following to unlock the third field.
- Enter Year 2 and unlock Vinnie.
- Create a Hybrid crop.
However, this has been proven false as there have been numerous reports, including myself, that meeting these requirements was not enough to have Takakura mention the third field to you.
The best and worst thing about Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is that you can run your farm however you want to. Some players grow crops, some focus on animals, some have high friendships with the townsfolk, and some prefer cooking. This means that players are coming into Year 2 with unique farms. Great in theory, but in practice, it is then unclear what the requirement was to unlock the third field.
After searching high and low and experimenting with different aspects of the game, I have found that these requirements are the likely flags that get Takakura to mention the third field.
- Enter Year 2 and unlock Vinnie.
- Create at least one Hybrid crop.
- Fill both fields with crops.
It took a couple of days after my fields were full. I would find Takakura daily and bombard him with gifts – milk and cooking. On the fourth day of my fields being full, he mentioned that I could order the third field from the Ledger.

There are numerous other suggestions that I did try and did not yield success individually. At the time of writing, it isn’t apparent if they aided the unlock once the field were full or if they did not matter at all. If the above still does not work for you, and until there is official confirmation of the requirements, I will list them below.
- Increase Vinnie’s friendship to the red.
- Increase Takakura’s friendship to the red.
- Buy a Fertilizer Spreader for a field.
- Sell crops through Takakura as opposed to Van so that they are recorded.
Once Takakura mentions the third field to you, you can purchase it from the Ledger for 60,000G. It is worthwhile as it provides you with more space to grow crops of your choosing. Plus, it is the most fertile of all fields, and rare hybrid crops require the soil quality to be planted.
Hopefully, the above tips helped you unlock the third field. I know that it became quite stressful for me as I could not work out why it would not unlock when I met the official requirements. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life has proven to be a game that loves to keep players on their toes with hidden requirements to unlock content, such as the cat, and the ducks.
