While many of the machines and rooms you find in Two Point Campus will automatically unlock as you progress, some require you to research them beforehand. If you’re interested in learning more, continue reading to find a comprehensive research guide for Two Point Campus.
Two Point Campus Research Guide
The game will first introduce you to research and staff training at Mitton University. Mitton University is the third level you unlock in the game after Freshleigh Meadows and Piazza Lanatra. Upon arriving at Mitton University, build your first Robotics Classroom and Training Room before unlocking the Research Lab. After creating your Research Lab, you’ll find a project to obtain the Robotics Bookcase.
To begin researching, head to your Research Hub and click the Start New Project button. You’ll see various options from here and unlock more over time. You’ll find two different types of research projects in Two Point Campus:
Two Point Campus Academic Research Projects
Most of your time, energy, and money will go into Academic projects. You’ll mainly find room and machine upgrade ones in this tab, with the occasional assignment and decorative object bundle. These will become your go-to if you want to snag more machine upgrades to boost your efficiency and student grades. All of these projects cost a small Greenlight fee and require anywhere from 200 to 1000 Research points. Teachers with high research skills generate points faster.
Commercial Research Projects
These research projects are all about making money and Kudosh! Aside from a small Greenlight fee, these projects are long-term investments that will net you cash rewards. If you’re low on cash and don’t want to take out any more loans, these will help you immensely. The general rule of thumb is that the higher the payout, the more research points you need.
Once you’ve figured out what research project to start with, select the option in the Research list and click the green Start button. The Greenlight Fee will automatically leave your account, and you’ll begin the project. Always keep a teacher in the room, or the study will pause until someone else resumes progress.

If you’ve played Two Point Hospital in the past, you may remember requiring specific research staff. Fortunately, despite Two Point Campus having a similar feature, it is much more relaxed. Rather than needing a researcher, you just have to use teachers with certain teaching skills. For example, a gastronomy professor can’t research the Robotics Bookcase unless they also have the Robotics qualification. However, a Robotics teacher can study it just fine. Furthermore, there is a research skill that increases a teacher’s speed in the lab.
Two Point Campus is available to play starting August 9 on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms through the official website. If you’d like to explore more Two Point Campus content, check out our Controls Guide and How to Increase Campus Attractiveness.
