How to Unlock the Rainbow Pigment

If you want to unlock this rare Rainbow Pigment, then you’re going to need to be ready to put in the work. Completing all of the challenges that you need to complete to unlock this dye is going to take a while, so make sure you’re ready for the long haul, then strap in and dive right into Monster Hunter: World to get it done.

Here’s a full list of the tasks that you’ll need to complete if you want to unlock this rare dye and be able to change the color of your armor to these colors.

  • Capture all monsters
  • Complete 100% of the Optional quests
  • Research up to level 6 for a total of 15 different monsters at the Ecological Research Center
  • Reach Hunter Rank 49

Completing the first task on this list and capturing all the monsters in the game is going to take a lot of time on its own and that isn’t even accounting for the other tasks on the list. Make sure you brush up on how to capture monsters for more help with that. You can easily check which monsters you have captured by opening up your Hunter’s Notes, then heading over to the Monster Field Guide. Here you can see the Ecology of the animals, as well as a counter of how many times you have hunted a monster, as well as how many of those hunts have come to a conclusion by catching that monster in a trap. Of course, you can’t technically capture Elder Dragons, so don’t sweat those too much.

You can check the Optional Quests by heading over to the Quest Board, though there is something you should keep an eye on. The COMPLETED tag that appears on the Quest Board will turn blue when you’ve completed all of the current quests available. This means you can still unlock more quests, though, so you’ll need to keep working on quests until the tag turned orange, signaling that you’ve completed 100% of the Optional Quests available in the game.

With the first two tasks completed, it’s time to make sure you’ve got the third task down. You’ll need to research 15 different monsters enough to rank up to Research Level 6 on each of them. This can only be done after you have learned how to unlock High Rank quests, though, so make sure you check that out for more information before trying to continue.

The last step in your journey is reaching Hunter Rank 49. Once you have reached HR49, you will unlock Thunderous Rumble in the Highlands, a highly dangerous quest that tasks you with hunting a Tempered Kirin. Once you take down this beast, you’ll receive another quest from the Commander called The White Winds of the New World, which will send you to a special arena that you must complete. You’ll have 25 minutes to hunt a Legiana, Diablos, Rathalos and Dodogaron. Once you complete this quest you will receive the Rainbow Pigment and be able to use it.

Now that you know how to get the Rainbow Pigment, make sure you check out our other Monster Hunter: World guides for more in-depth content and strategy information to help you track down and hunt every monster in Monster Hunter: World.
