Is it Safe or Dangerous to Pick Up and Open the Blue Gift Box in Lethal Company?

It is absolutely safe to pick up and open the Gift Box in Lethal Company. The Gift Box gives you a random item after you open it before poofing and disappearing into thin air. The item that you’ve received will be at your feet, ready to be picked up by you or your crewmate, or abandoned due to lack of value and use.

What Can You Get From the Blue Gift Box in Lethal Company?

You can get a random scrap item from the Gift Box. The value and weight may vary, so it’s not certain if you should keep the box unopened until you come back to the ship or not because:

  • If you open an axle, for example, your hands will be occupied, whereas you can hide the box.
  • If you open a low-weight item, you will carry a box heavier than the item drop.

Also, due to the randomness of the item drops, it’s not established whether you should sell an unopened box, or take your chances with opening it and selling whatever you find inside. The expected value should be bigger than of the unopened box, so if you’re desperate for more credits, try opening it.

Is the Gift Box a Temporary Item During Christmas Season in Lethal Company?

To me, it looks like a temporary addition to the game for the holidays, along with the Nutcracker. However, there haven’t been any official comments on the matter, so stay tuned for updates on future versions of Lethal Company.
