The Day Before is finally released after a lot of delays and controversies. One of the reasons for the delays has been the update to a better engine, so let’s have a look at what engine The Day Before is running on.

Which Engine is The Day Before Using?

The Day Before is running on Unreal Engine 5. As mentioned above, one of the reasons for the delay was the upgrade to UE5; understandably, it takes time for such a migration. Hopefully, the switch to the newere engine provides the smooth and stable experience that developer Fntastic is going for.

The Day Before is an open-world MMO with a post-pandemic zombie theme (as if the theme will stop being used any time soon, but hey, we got ourselves a prepper simulator to play).

At first glance, it reminds me of Tom Clancy’s The Division. Indeed, at some point, The Day Before was the most-wishlisted game on Steam, and the anticipation for the game kept growing, as much as the criticism. Hopefully, all of the delays were worth it, and we’ll witness a polished and entertaining experience.

The Day Before was originally revealed in 2021, with an expected release for June 2022, which was later delayed to March 2023, then to November 2023, and now, finally, to December 2023. Out of all this waiting period, eight months have gone to the trademark controversy, where an alleged copyright troll submitted an official patent/trademark request to the United States Patent and Trademark Office after the game was revealed.

Today, as Early Access for The Day Before releases on Steam, we will bear witness to whether all the critics were right or not.
