Sea of Stars is fairly light on its options menu; frankly, it doesn’t need to be anything more. It’s a 2D RPG that doesn’t require many graphical detail options, shadow quality, motion blur, or things of the sort. One option under ‘Video’ that’s very confusing, though makes more sense once you know who it’s for. Here’s what the Pixel Perfect option is in Sea of Stars.
What Does the Pixel Perfect Setting Do in Sea of Stars?
As stated above, the Pixel Perfect option in Sea of Stars can be found under the Video section of the Options menu, next to settings like Fullscreen/Windowed. Without a description of the option, though, you’re likely to be left confused. In essence, this option is exclusively designed for monitors not running a 16:9 aspect ratio, to help the game look better on those screens.

As for what that means, PC monitors often run in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This means that for every 16 pixels in width, there are nine pixels in height. You’ll know if your monitor runs at this aspect ratio if you run games at something like 1920×1080 or 1280×720 resolution. However, not all monitors are 16:9. Some are like 16:10, meaning they could be running a game at 1920×1200.
Usually, the above isn’t an issue for games that aren’t running pixel graphics, like, say Overwatch or Starfield. However, this resolution can make pixels look weirdly stretched and can be unappealing visually. With Pixel Perfect enabled, the game will run at a 16:9 resolution and introduce black bars to either side of the screen to compensate. Black bars don’t look incredible either, but it does well to preserve the visual fidelity of the game.
