It seems lately that Jagex have been providing a lot of updates for both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. This has been a mix of large updates, small updates, and a whole host of things in between. So, it is not surprising that occasionally some smaller updates fall in between the cracks. This is the case with the Strange Icon in Old School RuneScape. Many players have been asking what exactly this new item in the game is. If that is you, keep reading to find out exactly what the Strange Icon is in Old School RuneScape.
What Does the Strange Icon Do in OSRS?
Old School RuneScape has always been incredibly interesting to me. One of the most popular periods of time in RuneScape’s long history, paused in time in standalone game form. However, that doesn’t last forever. People finish leveling, quests, boss content, get bored, and move on. So, how do you make the game feel fresh whilst maintaining the old-school charm which is the sole reason for the game’s existence? I have always found the way in which Jagex balanced that to be impressive.

The Strange Icon was released in the June 14, 2023 update. To find the item, you first need to participate in the His Faithful Servants mini-quest. The steps to complete this mini-quest are as follows:
- Head to the Barrows and speak to the Strange Old Man who is near the entrance.
- Accept the quest His Faithful Servants.
- Defeat all six Barrows Brothers.
- Obtain the Strange Icon from the rewards chest.
- Give the Strange Icon to the Strange Old Man to complete the quest.
Completing the quest will reward you with the following:
- 20,000 Prayer XP from the dusty lamp.
- Crypt map.
There you have it! 20,000 Prayer XP is nothing to be taken lightly as leveling it up can get quite costly! Another quite costly item is RuneScape’s Golden Cape. The event period is heading towards the end but there is still time to collect the necessary gold shards to complete your lustrous cape!
