In order to unlock Link’s “default” look, i.e. the torso part for equipment that will make him look just like an amiibo figure or Link from the trailers, you will need to visit the floating Hyrule Castle. Here’s how to get up there, and how to get Champion’s Leathers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to Find Champion’s Leathers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
To get into the floating Hyrule Castle (in the middle of the Sky map), you need to have the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and the Paraglider unlocked – two things you’ll get almost instantly the first time you land on the surface world. Also, you will need a means to boost your Glider’s flight range (Tulin’s gust ability, for example), or some means to extend your Stamina (some stamina-boosting food).

As with everything in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are countless other more complicated solutions for this, but the easiest way is to launch yourself from Lookout Landing’s Skyview Tower, immediately open the Glider and start flying straight ahead to the north (you will be facing this side by default after you regain control). From there, just eat some stamina-increasing food until you get over the floating Hyrule Castle. If you’ve completed the Wind Temple and have Tulin’s hologram following you – use the Gust ability to get there faster.
Aim for the castle entrance to the land. Once there, head up the stairs to the throne room. In front of the throne you will see two lanterns – light them with a fire damage weapon, shoot a flame arrow, or just put a flint beside them and hit it with a sword, basically just light them up however you like.
When both fires are lit, the secret hatch behind the throne will open containing the chest with the Champion’s Leathers inside!
The new Champion’s Leathers are a little different from the ones from Breath of the Wild – as it is explained in the item description “This garment, worn by those in good standing with Hyrule royalty, had been reworked with the latest improvements, such as a new shoulder guard.” It is a level 5 torso gear item with an armor value of 10, and no additional resistances.
While you’re in the floating Hyrule Castle, explore the other rooms for a couple of high-level weapons and shields lying on the ground. There is also a Shrine behind the castle that you can complete and unlock fast travel, securing an easy way back to the castle.
