After one of your first missions (Trials) in The Outlast Trials, you are invited to the Pharmacy, which you can see in the image above, and you are offered to get a Prescription (Rx). However, with just one to choose from initially, you have to make it count, and the perk you choose should bring something to the table and make a difference during your next Trial. Below, you will be able to see the list of all Tier 1 Prescriptions in The Outlast Trials, as well as opinions that should help you decide which Prescription you should get early.
List of Tier 1 Prescriptions in The Outlast Trials
There are seven Tier 1 Prescriptions to choose from (Realistically speaking, you’ll get all of them eventually).
- Instant Use: Hold down Interact to use an item instantly rather than adding it to your inventory.
This one is cool, given the limitations of your inventory. Sometimes you do not want to swap items in order to consume the item that you have just stumbled upon, and then grab your original item from the floor. Consider taking. It can help in dire situations under pressure, saving you a lot of valuable seconds when you are being chased.
- Slide: Press crouch while running to slide.
Funnily enough, this was not included as a default move and I was caught by an enemy as I was “trying” to slide through a hole. So far, I didn’t see a lot of these holes that I can dash through, so I will skip on this for now, but keep in mind, that this is a semi-decent movement ability that you can use to escape from the attack range of most enemies.
- Regeneration: A small amount of health will regenerate after a short delay.
There are many other ways you can heal yourself, as well as to just straight-up not allow yourself to be hit (a lot)
- Self Defense Technique: You can use a bottle or brick from your inventory to quickly escape a pouncer’s grasp.
I thought about this and figured out that it’s a great thing to have. I bought it for myself as the first perk. When you put math on the board, it takes you a LOT of time to get yourself out of that untimely ambush and it always happens at the worst time possible! Not kidding. I literally bought it while writing these lines.
- Kick to Help: You can kick enemies that have grabbed your friends.
If you are playing with friends often, definitely take this!!!
- Life Saver: You can kick enemies to stop them from executing your friends.
This one sounds cool on paper, but if you have a syringe you can just revive them anyway?
- Run and Smash Doors: You can instantly open doors while running, but locked doors will be cracked.
Decent ability to save you a second or two when it’s a close call during a chase, and can make a difference between being able to close the door behind you or not, before the enemy reaches the doorway.

To summarize: Self Defense Technique is probably the best time-saver, Kick to Help is good to save a friend in peril (and this WILL happen a lot of times), and then there’s the “block” of Run and Smash Doors, Slide, and Instant Use which I will take afterward, and at the bottom of this priority list I see Regeneration and Life Saver. Of course, I am open to a different opinion and might update this article after I play the game some more, but this should be absolutely fine for now.
