The full list of maps for Modern Warfare 3 has already been revealed, and we know to expect every map from the original Modern Warfare 2. However, some of the MW2 2022 maps could also return in an unexpected way.
Will MW2 2022 Maps Return in MW3?
The short answer is yes, some of the MW2 2022 maps will be in Modern Warfare 3. It won’t be in the way that you expect, though. Instead of the usual map implementation in a Call of Duty game, the maps from 2022 will periodically be added to MW3 in a separate playlist. About four maps will appear at a time and will remain for a season.
These maps will go live shortly after the initial launch of Modern Warfare 3. When the MW2 2022 playlist becomes available for the first time, we can expect Farm 18, Mercado, and Shoothouse. There is at least one additional unnamed map, but Activision hasn’t revealed what it will be. There are only a couple of weeks before we find out.
This announcement was made with a mention of rotating maps in live seasons, so the playlist will likely refresh every two months with a new season. Playlist is an important term because these maps won’t be part of the standard matchmaking in Modern Warfare 3, and they don’t count as new maps that are planned for each content update.
In total, there should be 12 new maps that are added throughout the year and 16 that are available at launch. MW2 2022 maps will not count toward those numbers in any way, and they are just meant as a fun way to jump into some older content. If you want to ignore them in standard gameplay, you totally can.
