When it comes to the long-range meta in Warzone 2 Season 1, there are a ton of different weapons that you can choose from thanks to the options given by Modern Warfare 2. Some of the best options happen to be assault rifles, but with so many viable picks, it can be hard to tell which AR is truly the best.
While the meta may continue to shift as the season goes on, we have a good idea of the weapon tiers currently running the Warzone 2 meta. Until the mid-season update drops, this is your chance to grab the best overall AR and wreak some havoc in Al Mazrah.
Warzone 2 – What is the Best Assault Rifle?
At this point in the Modern Warfare 2 battle royale, weapons like the M4 and the Lachmann-556 have taken a backseat. The best assault rifle in Warzone 2 is currently the TAQ-56, otherwise known as the Scar. It may not be as strong as some of the light machine guns like the RPK or the RAAL MG, but it’s certainly the strongest AR pick.
Many players initially believed that the M4 or the Kastov-74u would take the top spot in the meta. There is an argument to be made for the Kastov-74u at 25 meters or less, but it won’t win the long-range fights. The TAQ-56 has the perfect damage-to-recoil ratio at range and the headshot multiplier is substantial enough to stand out.

Another fantastic trait of the TAQ-56 is the standard iron sight. Because of visual recoil, the lower the zoom is on a sight, the better. Iron sights already have a low zoom and they offer some additional ADS speed over a sight. If you can get used to the irons, you’ll have an even better overall rifle when compared to the others in Warzone 2 Season 1.
