When I first started my career with Prima Games, I was hoping to make some sort of an impact. No matter if it was from hard-hitting game coverage, breaking news, or an initiative to start up hardware reviews, anything goes. The industry is an interesting place, and everyone is hoping to make a name for themselves in some way or another. I just never thought my Magnum Opus would be about a McDonald’s shake.
You see, here on the Prima Teama, we’ve got some incredibly talented writers. One that pushed me toward where I am today is Jesse (do not contact him) and his passion for weird little guys. I was brought onto the Prima Teama in April 2023, and I decided to instantly morph into gremlin mode and let my passion for the weird leak out into our work chat and in my writing. However, everything changed when he pushed for me to write about the recently released Grimace Shake, which is why I’m here today writing about this particular collaboration.
Someone Thinks I’m a Tenno Out of Ten
Between my lovely coworkers sharing my Grimace Shake article on X (let’s be fair, it’s always going to be Twitter), and just the general love that it was shown through other social media sites, it caught the attention of someone at Digital Extremes. After an exchange between myself and Jesse, I found out that the team behind the massive Warframe franchise wanted me, in particular, to write up something about their new collaborations with Trolli and Sugar Lab in celebration of 10 years of this successful game. And while they may not have asked for me by my legally given name, it was something better than I could have ever expected.
With my legacy delivered to me on a silver platter, there is no way I couldn’t accept this opportunity. Digital Extremes was kind enough to send over two PR boxes full of different types of treats to help me lose myself in the world of Warframe. And while one particular box said I shouldn’t open until Tenncon, which takes place on August 26, 2023, I had to dive in and deliver my thoughts on the treats that were bestowed upon me from the Tenno themselves.
The first box I received contained the severed heads of some familiar characters from the Warframe franchise, beautifully 3D printed by the folks over at Sugar Lab. Inside of my box, I received the visages of the following folks:
- Excalibur – Red Mint
- Vor – Silver Ginger
- Clem – Green Lime
- Baro – Turquoise Ginger Lime
- Lotus – Blue Strawberry Lemon
- Mesa – Yellow Lemon
Since the heads of these characters have been 3D printed, I figured I should do a little 3D printing of my own. I got to work and found the template for a pedestal, which I am using in the photos below to showcase the details of these incredible pieces of work.
Inside the box, I was given a delightful recipe that sounds absolutely delicious for a drink they call “The Lotus.” However, there were some ingredients I could not get my hands on, in particular, Elderberry Soda. I live in the middle of rural Wisconsin; there is no such knowledge of any item like that around these parts. I was, however, able to get my hands on some sparkling water as they recommended, so let’s dive in and find out if the taste matches the detail.
After dunking each of the different Warframe characters into a delicious glass of sparkling water, I’ve learned that while their outsides may be gritty, they’re a delicious cocktail of flavors within. While not everyone hits the mark (I’m looking at you, Vor), they’re a delightful way to increase the flavor of your favorite drink. In my professional opinion, the most delicious Warframe characters by order of taste would be as follows:
- Lotus – Blue Strawberry Lemon
- Mesa – Yellow Lemon
- Clem – Green Lime
- Excalibur – Red Mint
- Baro – Turquoise Ginger Lime
- Vor – Silver Ginger
As you can see, Lotus by far took the cake here, with a delicious Blue Strawberry Lemon flavor. While Vor and Baro on their own may not have been my favorites, mixed in with a particular type of substance, they could advance upon the frontlines and take a much higher spot.
WARFRAME / SUGAR LAB COLLABORATION
PROS:
● A great way to pep up a drink
● Designs look fantastic
● Warframe characters are strangely delicious
CONS:
● Ginger on its own isn’t great
● They’re all gone now 🙁
These treats were provided to me by Digital Extremes, but they didn’t provide me with sparkling water 🙁
Yes, We Do A Little Trolli-ng Here
But what about the second box that I received from Digital Extremes? What was in there? Well… once I figure out where the contents inside squirmed away to, I’ll be happy to report back to you all on that one. Let me just take a quick look around and see if I can find… OH NO, THEY’RE GOING AFTER LOTUS!
I can’t believe that Trolli would create Vome & Fass crawlers, packed to the brim with Sour Bursting goo inside and that they would go after Lotus like that. While they may have taken her away from me, I’ve thankfully got my trusty Nikana Prime nearby that I can use to dispatch them rather quickly.
With a quick slice of my blade, Vome & Fass are no more. However, I can’t deny that they’re looking a little bit like a snack right there… would it be wrong of me to take a little bite? Well, we only live once, right? Let’s see what our thoughts are here.
On a personal level, I’m going to need Trolli to drop off a 5lb bag of the Midnight Blue Raspberry & Strawberry flavor. They are absolutely to die for and easily my favorite treat that I had out of all of them. The High Noon Mango & Fruit Punch flavor was just as tasty, but I’ve always had a sweet spot for anything Blue Raspberry. Now, if they had hit me up with some grape flavor, I’d never have to worry about buying another candy again.
WARFRAME / TROLLI SOUR BURSTING GUMMY WORMS
PROS:
● Intense flavor
● Delightfully gooey and gushy
● Super creative and fun
CONS:
● Those worms are way too happy to die
● My bag had more Mango than Blue Raspberry
This treat was provided by Digital Extremes. Please send me like… 10 more bags, I’m begging you.
The Overall Verdict
If you’re looking for a tasty treat or two that matches up with your gaming interests, you can’t go wrong with these delightful little morsels. Sugar Lab did a great job not only knocking the design of their decedent enhancers, but the taste is also fantastic. And you already know I’m going to be searching for those gummy worms whenever I go into a gas station or grocery store, so I can exact my revenge for Lotus.
With Tennocon 2023 right around the corner, these treats are a great way to help you celebrate the game and franchise that you’ve grown to love over the years. Countless games continue to fail within their first year and never get the chance to grow to their full potential. Warframe has defied all odds and continues bringing in countless fans, and now they’ve got the goodies to show for it. Now, be sure once Tennocon hits again for the 15th anniversary, you remember my name. Just don’t call me the “man who did the grimace shake.” Call me “the man who ate all the warframes.”
