Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion was released a couple of weeks ago, and with that came an all-new seasonal leveling system for players titled Guardian Ranks. These ranks are supposed to symbolize a series of trials and tribulations a Gaurdain has overcome during a season and give players an idea of how skilled a guardian is at a quick glance. The system is not without its problems, though.
As most long-time players will start at level 6 (the halfway point of the ranking system), there are some pretty hefty requirements to reach level 7. One of the most contentious has been the commendation score. The commendation system is a new mechanic that allows players to give their thanks to players in matchmade activities by providing them with a bevy of different accolades.
The more commendations you receive over time, the higher your score. If you want to reach rank 7 in the new Guardian Ranks system, you need a total score of 750. This is an incredibly high number and would require hours and hours of grinding activities, hoping your teammates would commend you.
Bungie Addresses Commendations Requirement for Guardian Ranks in Destiny 2 Lightfall
The system wasn’t beneficial, and now Bungie has addressed the issue in today’s update. The update now puts the required commendations at the following requirements.
💠Rank 7: 460 (was 750)
💠Rank 8: 790 (was 1,250)
💠Rank 9: 1,290 (was 1,750)
💠Rank 10: 1,530 (was 5,000)
💠Rank 11: 1,800 (was 6,000)

This is a pretty drastic change from the original numbers and a welcomed change by the community. Players on forums and subreddits were devising ways to cheese the original requirement by loading into activities like Petra’s Run and exiting out immediately to give their friends commendations. The system was not working as intended, and hopefully, this swift change makes the leveling process feel more natural and less like a needless grind.
