Private servers are coming, but the cost might not be worth it for Fallout 76 players. The team over at Bethesda promised that Fallout 76 would be an evolving experience, and it has been, but the launch title left many feeling like the studio was relying on the Fallout brand to carry it into success. Though the game has gotten incredible new content, a big portion of the gaming community has seen it as “too little, too late.” As much as I myself personally enjoy the game on PC, I fear that their latest reveal – namely its price – may just backfire in a way that might be irreparable.
Bethesda took to the game’s blog to detail what’s included with their new membership. The problem isn’t the content, the issue is the price. The price for everything seen above comes out to $100, and that’s in addition to the cost of the game. That’s far more than that of similar services and the timing alongside the rave reviews that Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is getting? Big ouch …
According to the announcement, “Fallout 1st will be available as a one-month membership, or you can purchase a yearly membership for a 36% discount over the monthly rate as shown on our website. If you cancel your membership or it expires, you’ll still be able to access any Atoms received as well as the resources stored in your Scrapbox. Cancellation will be effective at the end of your then-current membership term.”
All hope isn’t lost though. The team was very careful to mention that they are paying close attention to feedback. I can’t be the only one having this as my first thought, so I pray that they will realise that they can still offer all of these amazing features for a much more realistic price.
