Dead Island 2: is it dead in the water, is it still in progress? We don’t know, but we do have an old build of the game. An old build from 2015 of Dead Island 2 has made its way online, which is doing nothing to quell the desire to know just what the heck is going on with this continuously delayed game.
The highly anticipated sequel has been postponed so many times, it’s hard to keep. It’s also changed hands a few times as well, further perpetuating the worry that fans will never get to see this title in the light of day despite developer assurances to the contrary. For now, we have a previously unseen build to tide us over. It’s basically the same thing.
The build images come by way of Jason Harrdington, a graphics designer over at Nintendo:

At this point, however, it’s important to note that these screenshots are from five years ago and a lot can happen in five years. If the title itself is still in production, it’s likely that it looks almost nothing like this in its current state. But who knows? We certainly haven’t had any news come out of the studio behind it outside of a “don’t lose hope” message back in August 2019, so everything at this point is speculation based on what has happened thus far.
As for the sequel itself, Dead Island 2 is in the hands of Dambuster Studios courtesy of THQ Studios following a rocky road filled with cancellation rumors, change of studios, and scrapped ideas. With E3 cancelled this year and a ton of digital showcases planned, perhaps we will finally have some news regarding the game now that new build images are wild.
