Destiny 2’s next chapter, Season of the Deep, begins in just a few days (Tuesday, May 23), and Bungie have previewed a few new Strand Aspects before release. Each class is getting a new Aspect, which is essentially a modifier of sorts that changes the way each subclass behaves. They’re all vastly different from each other in functionality, so let’s break each one down and see how they work.

New Strand Aspects in Destiny 2 Season 21
Hunter: Threaded Specter
This is a class ability modifier that leaves behind a decoy of the Hunter woven in Strand after they perform a dodge. After the decoy takes significant damage – or when enemies get close – it detonates and releases Threadlings that seek out enemies.
Functionally, this could be particularly useful in solo Legendary Lost Sectors or when attempting to bypass foes during trickier bits of platforming, such as that seen in certain dungeons.
Titan: Flechette Storm
It wouldn’t be a Titan subclass without a sliding melee, and we’re finally getting one in Season 21. When sliding, a charged melee sends you up into the air while knocking back enemies, and using your melee again launches a volley of damaging, unraveling projectiles. This can also be chained, much like the current Strand melee.
Anything with some extra reach is welcome in Destiny 2 – a game where every enemy seems to stomp, explode, or otherwise punish the player for getting too close. So having a melee that can hit from afar, especially on Titan, is very welcome.
Warlock: The Wanderer
Tangles you throw attach to enemies and detonate, suspending foes around them. Threadling final blows also create Tangles.
Sorry Warlocks, this is.. not particularly interesting. I do think the ability to suspend targets more reliably is welcome, and a lot of Warlock’s Strand kit involves spawning tons of Threadlings, but relying on them for final blows is a bit finnicky. Time will tell if this ends up being a reliable pick for endgame content.
Those are all the new Strand Aspects coming Tuesday! Stay tuned for how to acquire them – likely as part of a quest – when Season of the Deep launches on May 23.
