While Baldur’s Gate 3 has an extensive character creator, it wouldn’t be complete if you couldn’t choose what color undies your powerful hero wears while lounging at camp. Thankfully there is an answer to this problem: dyes! Here’s how to find and use Dye in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Apply Dye to Gear in Baldur’s Gate 3
Dyes come in various colors, ranging from Muddy Green to regal Red; each can be applied to give your armor and clothes for a new look. Dyes can be found while adventuring or sold by merchants.

Once acquired, a dye can be applied to a piece of equipment by doing the following:
- Press I to bring up your inventory.
- Double-click on the dye you want to use.
- The combine panel will appear.
- Drag the item you wish to dye into the right slot.
- Click combine.
If the item can be dyed, the combination will succeed. This will give your item the coloration of the dye you used, letting you create a fancy color scheme for your characters. Be aware that using a dye will consume it, so make sure you want to use it on your chosen item. This also means you must acquire several dyes to create a color-coordinated outfit.
How to Remove Dye from Gear
If you want to undo the effects of a dye, you’ll need to find an additional item: Dye Remover. This can be located during your adventures if you loot every box you come across. You should check in with traders you meet for a more direct source. Be aware that the icon for Dye Remover makes it look like any other bottle of dye, so check carefully.
