The Mystic Carrion’s way beyond his expiration date. Here’s how to defeat the Mystic Carrion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Find the Mystic Carrion in Baldur’s Gate 3
It’s quite easy to run right past the Mystic Carrion’s house. After all, it’s behind a door without a handle. To find the Mystic Carrion, you’ll need to go to the very south of the map, close to the Heapside Strand Waypoint. There, you’ll find a house without a door. Approach it from the westside, and you’ll get a perception check.
If you pass the perception check, you’ll be able to examine the door. But you’ll need to pass a Sleight of Hand check for 25 or higher to get in. Alternatively, you can go to the otherside of the house, to the coordinates X: -27, Y-166. There, you’ll be able to find a hole. You can use Gaseous Form to enter through the hole and into the house.
Once you’re inside, Mystic Carrion will be waiting in the living room. He’ll tell you that one of his servants, Thrumbo, has escaped, and he’ll task you with finding them. This will grant you the quest “Find Mystic Carron’s Servant.”
Once you find Thrumbo, he’ll tell you about Mystic Carrion’s cruelty and try to convince you to kill Mystic Carrion instead. If you agree to do it, you’ll get the quest “Destroy Mystic Carrion”. But destroying Mystic Carrion is no easy task.
Baldur’s Gate 3: All Mystic Carrion Jar Body Parts Locations (BG3)
Unfortunately, if we want to take down the undead necromancer, we’ll need to destroy Mystic Carrion’s organs. And because he’s a mummy, these organs have been spirited away to jars that are now scattered around Lower City. Here’s how to find each of Mystic Carrion’s Organs.
We technically only need one organ to make Mystic Carrion killable, and that’s the heart. But by collecting all four pieces, we’ll severely weaken him.
Here’s the full, in-depth guide.
Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Lungs Location in Baldur’s Gate 3
The first organ we’ll grab is the lungs. And to get to it, we’ll need to head to the Mortuary entrance, at the very north of Lower City.
- Red Star – Mortuary and Lungs.
- Green Star – Thrumbo and Heart.
The Mortuary door will be set in a corner and locked, but you’ll only need to pass a skill check of 10 to get in.
Once the door is open, you’ll find yourself in, you guessed it, a mortuary. But the Jar of Mystic Carrion Lungs will be on the table, along with a few other herbs and lootable items. Easy!
Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Liver and Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Brain
So, this is a two-for-one deal! These two jars are actually in the same room. To get to Mystic Carrion’s Live and Brain, you’ll need to head into the Sewers.
There are several entrances into the sewer. There’s a locked door in the Guildhall that leads to it. Cardoza’s ritual room has a secret entrance to the sewer. You can use any manhole on the street to access it. You can get to it through the secret door in the basement of Elfsong Tavern. If you’ve solved the Murder Investigation quest, you’ll be able to access it and Bhaal’s door through the cemetery as well.
There are plenty of options, so pick your favorite poison.
Once you’re in the sewers, you’ll want to head all the way to the Northeast, where you’ll eventually hit the Undercity Ruins. Go left from the waypoint. There will be a clickable passage that will take you into a crypt-like room.
Head towards the stone wall on your right and you’ll be attacked by mummies. A lot of mummies. Kill them, then lockpick or burst down the door.
This will reveal a secret room that contains a Gilded Chest. Open the Gilded Chest to get the Jar of Mystic Carrion Liver. To get into the Gilded Chest, you’ll need to pass a throw of 10 or better.
The Jar of Mystic Carrion Brain will be on the table in the center.
But what you must not miss is the book that’s on the desk on the right side of the room. This book is the “Funerary Jar Form and Function.” If you read it, you’ll realize that the last Jar is in Thrumbo.
- Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Brain.
- Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Liver.
- Funerary Jar Form and Function book.
Jar of Mystic Carrion’s Heart Location
To find the Mummy Lord’s heart, return to the beachside house that Thrumbo was hiding in. He’ll still be there, and you can tell him that he has the Mummy’s heart inside his chest. Once he realizes that the heart has been in his chest all along, he’ll be violently ill and vomit the jar onto the floor.
And that’s the last of them!
How to Defeat Mystic Carrion in Baldur’s Gate 3
Drop all four of the Jars of Mystic Carrion body parts on the ground and destroy them however you like. Once they’re shattered, return to Phylgrave’s Mansion. I would highly recommend hiding and then getting a surprise shot on Mystic Carrion, as the moment you start the fight you’ll be ambushed by around seven mummies on all sides.
By getting the drop on Mystic Carrion, you even up the odds. Mystic Carrion and the mummies enjoy inflicting necrotic and poison damage, so get ready for that. If you’re struggling to weather Mystic Carrion and his minions, be sure to have a Cleric like Shadowheart in your party.
Clerics can use Protection from Poison, Destroy Undead, and Mass Healing Word. This combination can prevent your party from taking tick damage, keep the team up after they endure several mult-hit attacks, and deal damage to boot. Banishment can also help to thin out the room for a bit if you’re struggling with the mobs.
Otherwise, good ol’ fashion magic and swords will do just fine. Just try to keep your team’s health high and close together, so one teammate doesn’t get ganged up on.
Once you’ve defeated Mystic Carrion, you’ll be able to loot Mystic Carrion’s body.
He’ll have the Crypt Lord Ring, which will allow you to use the ability Create Undead. This is very useful, as the mummies you’ll create have 130+ HP and have the capacity to use multi-attacks, making them a great ally to send into mobs.
He’ll also have the Staff of Cherished Necromancy, which naturally helps with Necromancy-based skills, and the Sword of Life Stealing. Both are great weapons.
Thrumbo and the other undead minions will then return to the house, and Thrumbo will become a permanent vendor. It’s really the best of all worlds.
