Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best RPGs of the decade, and it should really be called Baldur’s Great 3 (sorry). That said, it is not without the occasional bug or issue that impacts your enjoyment. If you have been dealing with the UI disappearing bug that has been affecting some players, we have an easy fix.
How to solve the “Baldur’s Gate 3 UI disappeared” bug
To fix the UI disappearing bug, hit F5 to quicksave the game, then F8 to quickload the game. This will force the game to fully reload and fix the issue. You won’t lose any of your progress thanks to the quicksave.
The UI is essentially built out of separate graphic and shader elements, so by forcing a full reload, you make the engine rebuild all those elements again, fixing the problem.
From what we can tell, it seems that this bug seems to be somewhat character dependent in that it will impact one character more than others in your party. For some players, it has been their main character, while others have suffered at the hands of Lae’zel, whom the game seems to have a grudge against.
Despite F10 being the usual key to toggle the HUD, that doesn’t work, as the root of the bug seems to be that the engine doesn’t even realize that it is not rendering the HUD elements.

The desperate measures list
If you have been badly impacted by the bug, then all you can really do in the long term is wait for Larian Studios to address it with a hotfix or patch. Should you be willing to try more drastic measures, there have been various reports of success via the following fixes:
- Revert to a save file from before the bug became prominent – just load up a previous save file from before the bug hit you and see if that solves the issue.
- Update your GPU drivers – it’s a bit of a catch-all solution for many graphics issues, but primarily because it really can solve the oddest problems.
- Use Shift+Tab to disable the Steam Overlay – using overlays can be very useful, but it can also cause issues with games from time to time.
- Check your Mods – are you running mods? If so, make sure none of them have reported problems with the UI.
