While violence is not always avoidable in Baldur’s Gate 3, murder can be. When a fight breaks out with an NPC that you don’t want to remove from the game, there is an option to achieve a less deadly outcome. Here’s how to knock someone out in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Knock Someone Unconscious in Baldur’s Gate 3
As it is in Dungeons and Dragons, it is in Baldur’s Gate 3. At any time, you can deal non-lethal damage without negatively affecting your damage output. To activate the ability, navigate to the passive abilities section of your Hotbar and toggle on non-lethal damage.

Now that non-lethal damage is active, you can run up and bash enemies without concerns about killing someone unintendedly. However, there are still some conditions you must follow. Spell and ranged attacks are still deadly, and the safest way to be sure is to use melee strikes to get the final blow on an opponent.
Thankfully you only need to deal the last hit nonlethally. Burning down an enemy’s health with massively powerful spells is OK, as long as the final blow is a nonlethal whack with a sword or staff.
Once an enemy is unconscious, it is impossible to wake them. The best bet is to travel to your camp and rest. When you return to the site of the battle, any unconscious enemies will be awake again. Though this doesn’t mean they have forgotten why they attacked you in the first place.
Now that you know how to deal with enemies without resorting to murder, why not find out how to enable the mighty feat Great Weapon Master and deal some extra damage at the cost of a bit of accuracy?
