Bane is a rare status effect, and perhaps for that reason, it’s not always apparent how to cure it. But it is possible! Here’s how to cure Bane in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Cure Bane Status Effect in BG3
Bane is a curse status effect that will follow you around until you cure it, giving you a -1d4 penalty on all your attack rolls and saving throws. And it can only be cured in two ways: a long rest or by using the spell Remove Curse.
Remove Curse is a Level 3 spell from the Abjuration School, which means at level 5, your Cleric, Warlock, and Wizard can learn it. But it’s likely better to take a long rest instead of wasting the slot.
If the Bane Status effect keeps appearing on your character, it’s likely for the following reasons:
- You’ve equipped the Gloves of Power without having the Mark of the Absolute.
- You’ve equipped the Absolute Warboard and cast Absolute’s Protection on a character without them having the Mark of the Absolute.

Until you get the Mark of the Absolute, using Absolute-affiliated items will continuously apply this curse. You can get the Mark of the Absolute in the Goblin Camp by allowing Priestess Gut to brand you. It might be worth noting that taking on the Mark of the Absolute is rumored to change some of your endings, so weigh your options carefully.
If you’re stricken with Bane but aren’t equipping any Absolute gear, it’s also possible to be stricken by Bane in Auntie Ethel’s basement in the Teahouse. This is done by breaking the cursed mirror. But the cure remains the same – a Long Rest or a Remove Curse spell will heal you right up.
If you find yourself in Ethel’s basement, there’s a good chance you’re trying to save Mayrina. Fortunately, we have a guide that covers that.
