Shadow Curse effects of the Shadow Lands in Baldur’s Gate 3 are nothing to mess around with. To help you finesse these deadly curses, we’ll cover all the ways to stop Shadow Curse effects in BG3.
How to Get to the Shadow Cursed Lands
You can get into the Shadow Cursed Lands through two methods.
- Through Grymforge:
- You’ll need to take the Grymforge elevator to get to the Shadow Cursed Lands. Make sure to complete the True Soul Nere quest ahead of time.
- Through Rosymorn Monastery Trail:
- You’ll find the Rosymorn Monastery Trail west of the Mountain Pass region. You can find the Mountain Pass at coordinates (X: -49 Y: -180). Warning, entering this area will begin Act 2.
How to Negate Shadow Curse in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are four main ways to deal with Shadow Curse: General torches, the Blessing of Selune from Isobel, a Moon Lantern, and the Pixie Blessing buff. Each of these methods has varying levels of strength, and in the case of the Moon Lantern, varying benefits. As you enter the Shadow Cursed Lands for the first time in BG3 though, there is only one solution.
Using Torches to Stop Shadow Curse Effects in BG3
Having your characters carry torches is the most immediate way to stop your party from dying as you enter the Shadow Cursed Lands. Some of you may have obtained a Moon Lantern from the Mountain Pass beforehand. However, most players will likely get here with no magical lights. That means using torches and staying in the vicinity of the light is your only hope.
Torches can be found sitting in braziers all around the Shadow Cursed Lands, so don’t worry about finding any as you explore. Just don’t go into the areas around the Moonrise Tower because torches are not strong enough.
Getting the Blessing From Isobel to Stop Shadow Curse in BG3
An upgrade from torches is the Blessing of Selune given by Isobel at the Last Light Inn. This area is protected by light from Isobel and serves as a safe hub within the Shadow Cursed Lands. After progressing the story at the Inn with Jaheira, she will instruct you to head to the second floor of the Inn and speak to the Cleric.
Isobel will then give you a blessing that serves the same function as a torch, only now you don’t need to carry a light source. Like the torches though, this won’t help in the areas hit hardest by the Shadow Curse.
Negate Shadow Curse Effects With the Moon Lantern in BG3
A Moon Lantern will give you the ability to completely negate all Shadow Curse effects at any point in Baldur’s Gate 3. Moon Lanterns aren’t exactly easy to get though. Your best bet is to continue the story at Last Light Inn and help the Harpers ambush Kar’niss. Defeating this boss will reward you with a lantern. You can also steal one from Nere toward the Grymforge, or help Balthazar in the Temple of Shar.
Pixie’s Blessing
When you get a Moon Lantern, there will be a Pixie inside. You can choose to leave the Pixie in the cage or free them. Choosing to free the Pixie in exchange for help will grant you and your team Pixie’s Blessing. This blessing is permanent while exploring the Shadow Cursed Lands and acts just like a Moon Lantern. You will not need an item equipped to use Pixie’s Blessing, so walk around in the area without any worries about becoming cursed!
