Amnesia’s latest installment called Amnesia: The Bunker is out, and fans of the series have something cool to look forward to in the dark nights of long play sessions where only a monitor acts as a light source. However, given the recent popularity of multiplayer horror games, such as Dead by Daylight, the up-and-coming Outlast Trials, or the recently-announced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you can’t help yourself but ask if Amnesia: The Bunker has multiplayer or not. Keep reading below to find out.
Is There Multiplayer in Amnesia: The Bunker?
Amnesia: The Bunker is, sadly, not imagined as a multiplayer experience, although I do admit that it would be a nice idea to act as the Beast and chase a friend or two in the dark Bunker. I can already imagine the mechanics that take away the control of the Beast and force you to retreat if you are hurt too much, along with the limitations on how much noise needs to be made before you can preemptively jump out of a hole you shouldn’t be able to fit through (given the constitution of the Beast), but you do so anyway, ready to conduct unsolicited chiropractic sessions on an unsuspecting player.

However, Amnesia: The Bunker is declared as a single-player game. Frictional Games promised additional content for Amnesia: The Bunker down the line, and there is an option to make your own Custom Stories and share them with the Internet, but I do not think that Frictional Games is going to code Multiplayer into Amnesia: The Bunker afterward.
Will There Be Multiplayer in Amnesia: The Bunker in the Future?
I believe that a big difference between making a single-player and multiplayer game lies in the inevitable factor which is the net code, servers, and whatnot. It’s not an easy task to do all that when it’s not projected with the initial release of the game, and there might not be an incentive to do so if the game does not become very popular (although Frictional Games has a few multiplayer-ready games running the same HPL engine).

So, perhaps we should let go of this idea for now and leave just a fragment of hope that one day a cooperative or asymmetrical Horror experience will be available, whether through official means or by a miraculous community mod.
