Experimental Affixes offer players unique hybrids of stats on gear that can only be found on certain items within Last Epoch. This guide will explain exactly how the Experimental items work and where you can find them.
What are Experimental Affixes in Last Epoch?
Experimental Affixes are unique versions of standard affixes that can only be found on Experimental Items dropped by Exiled Mages. Modifiers such as additional haste after using a traversal skill are what you can expect when you find one of these items, but the affixes themselves will vary. If you can manage to find an Experimental item with the stats you want, you can even attempt to meld the affix into Legendary gear with the Legendary Potential system.
Runes of Research will allow you to permanently tie the Experimental Affix found on a piece of gear so that it doesn’t get erased in the Forge. Eventually, you will have a few of these runes saved up in the end game of Last Epoch, which gives you the right track to try crafting some of your own Legendary gear with Experimental stats.
What makes these pieces of gear even more elusive is the method of finding them. Experimental Items can only spawn in one place, but they are completely random.
How to Get Experimental Affixes and Items in Last Epoch
Interact with a Rune Prison found in any timeline and defeat the Exiled Mage that appears to earn an Experimental Item. Any time you defeat a mage, a blue item will drop on the ground that is marked with a slight yellow, indicating a rare item. While the item may still have a blue rarity, the Experimental Affix on the stats is what makes it worthy of the yellow marking. The Affix you’re looking for will also be marked in blue.
Monoliths of Fate are another great way to find Rune Prisons as you grind through countless enemies in the end game of Last Epoch. Each one has a chance to spawn the shrine-like items, which can be quickly completed.
If you’re lucky, you might even find a Rune of Ascendance as you search for another Rune Prison.
