Wham! Final Fantasy XIV’s new Island Sanctuary feature has blasted onto the scene with the release of the 6.2 content patch on August 23. Offering hours of gathering resources, crafting tools, constructing workshops, and more – there’s fun for every Warrior of Light who needs a little break from all the monster slaying. One big aspect of Island Sanctuaries is capturing and domesticating wild animals to yield special “Leavings” to be collected once a day, provided you keep them happy and well-fed. Amongst the common wildlife are more rare catches that only show up for short periods of time each Eorzean day, including the elusive Dodo of Paradise. If you’re looking to keep this colorful bird as a pet, read on to learn how to catch a Dodo of Paradise in FFXIV’s Island Sanctuary.

Capturing Animals in FFXIV Island Sanctuary
Before you go-go, you’ll need a special restraint to catch a Dodo. Restraints are crafted using gathered resources, and specialize in catching appropriately-sized animals out in the wild. The Dodo of Paradise is considered a Medium-sized animal, and therefore can only be captured using a Makeshift Restraint, available after reaching Rank 6. To craft the restraint, you’ll need the following:
- 3 Island Hemp
- 1 Island Copper Ore
After you’ve crafted your restraint, switch over to Capture mode and select it as your tool.
Capturing the Dodo of Paradise – Time and Location
The Dodo of Paradise is considered a rare spawn, and thus can only be found during the hours of 3 PM to 6 PM Eorzean Time. Travel towards the north-western edge of your island to reach the tip of a tall cliff around the (X: 16.6, Y: 11.6) coordinates during the specific window of time to catch a glimpse of the vibrant Dodo of Paradise. Luckily for you, the type of weather won’t affect the Dodo’s chance at spawning.
Use the Makeshift Restraint on the Dodo of Paradise and, if you’re successful, you’ll be the proud new owner of a unique island animal. Once caught, the Dodo will be sent straight to the pasture at your Island Sanctuary, surely making friends with the other various species you’ve been collecting. Keep the Dodo of Paradise well-fed and happy and they’ll drop Sanctuary Feather leavings for you once a day.
