If you’ve spent much time exploring the Depths located under Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom, odds are you’ve come across a twelve-foot-tall skeleton – and I ain’t talkin’ about the one from Home Depot. That’s right: I mean the Stalnox. These skeletonized Hinox may look intimidating, but with the right tricks, they’re actually a cinch to take down. Here’s how to defeat Stalnox in Tears of the Kingdom.
How to Defeat Stalnox in Tears of the Kingdom
Much like their fleshy brethren, the Stalnox’s weak point is its eye. You’ll want a reliable bow to take aim with, and if you’re not feeling up to snuff with your aim, try attaching Keese or Aerocuda Eyes to your arrow for a homing shot. This will ensure a critical hit that brings the Stalnox tumbling to the ground for some quick hits.
Once it’s been stunned, quickly run up to one of its legs and using a strong two-handed weapon, Charge Attack to continuously deal massive damage. Link’s spinning attack when holding a two-hander is fantastic for dishing out pain to large stunned enemies like the Stalnox. Just don’t get too carried away! Be sure to retreat as it stands back up.
Once the Stalnox’s health is low, the eye will pop out of its skull and bounce away from Link. Simply chase it down and try using a spear to stay engaged. Just glue yourself to it and try to finish it off while you can – but if not simply shooting it again once will bring it back to the ground. Just be sure to avoid the main body’s attacks while you whack away at it!
Where to Find Stalnox in Tears of the Kingdom
If you’re looking for a couple quick kills for materials (or just for fun), there are two Stalnox found in Hyrule Field – you won’t even need to traverse the Depths!
One can be found in the Royal Hidden Passage – simply take the tunnel underneath Lookout Landing and follow it until you reach a room with the Stalnox lying in wait. Check the screenshot below if you’re not sure where to find the entrance.
Another can be found in the Giant’s Forest, just South West of Lookout Landing. But be aware this Stalnox will only be active during nighttime, and has no transition animation to “wake up” in front of the player. If you’re too early or late to the party, just reload a save and come back between the hours of 9 PM and 5 AM. The map below shows the exact location.
