Warhammer 40K: Darktide found itself dealing with many, many issues during its pre-order beta, with many likely persisting into the full release. This includes the dreaded backend error, disconnected from server error, and all the various error code values that have popped up. One such issue is plaguing a lot of players still, though there are a few things you could try. Here’s how to fix error code 4008 in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
What is Error Code 4008/Failed Handshake Timeout in Darktide?
The 4008 error code, also known as the failed handshake timeout error, tends to crop up at any point during matches. Randomly, the game will kick you back to the menus with the error popping up on the side. It doesn’t matter if you were just starting the mission, in the middle of a horde, or right at the end, it can nastily appear. This makes it naturally a frustrating issue to handle, though there are a few things you can try.
Some users have suggested having limited success using a VPN. This can be done through places like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark, or others you may prefer. Make sure to check your country’s internet laws though, as some prohibit the use of a VPN. Another great method to fix this issue is to fully restart your game, followed by your PC and router should the initial issue not resolve the problem. Keep in mind that this is more or less a temporary fix than anything else.
