Scanner distortion missions are a certain type of mission that grants you a unique power by the end of them. Into the Unknown will likely be your first scanner distortion mission in Starfield, however there are more powers to unlock, and more adventures to be had! This specific task is one of the more confusing missions in the Into the Unknown quest-line, and I’m going to show you how to complete it below!
Starfield: How to Follow Distortions on the Scanner
Upon landing at Procyon III, scanner distortions will appear as little glitches on the outer ring of your scanner. To follow distortions on your scanner, simply turn your scanner until you see one of these distortions, and move in that direction. The distortions will increase in frequency and intensity as you get closer to the next objective.
You will eventually stumble upon a structure named the Temple Eta (seen above), which is your destination for this part of the Into the Unknown mission.
As you get closer to Temple Eta, you will be given your next objective, which is “Investigate the Source of the Anomaly”.

How to Solve the Temple Eta Puzzle in Starfield
To investigate the source of the anomaly, you’ll want to travel around the base of the Temple until you find a shiny, alien-like door. Enter it.
Make your way inside of the Temple of Eta, and you will run into an ancient structure with a similar look to the artifacts you are piecing together.
Activating this structure will require you to solve a puzzle that involves you floating into balls of light.

These light prisms will teleport into random locations in the temple room. You will need to fly into the light to begin activating the structure. Once you fly into enough balls of light, the ancient structure will transform into a portal.
Entering this portal will give you another vision and teleport you back outside, where you will be tasked with returning back to the Lodge.
After returning to the Lodge, you will be granted the Anti-gravity field power, which sends enemies hurdling through the sky in a low-gravity field. This is an extremely useful power, and can render even the most dangerous enemies useless!
Eventually you will be tasked with additional scanner distortion missions, and each of them will give you a new power to play with! Although each power is unique in their capabilities, the game does not force you to obtain them and you can complete these missions at your own pace.
