Mister Qi will do more than stab you for cheating, he’ll also dole out random gifts. Here’s how to get mystery boxes in Stardew Valley.
How to Get Mystery Boxes in Stardew Valley and Complete Loot Table
As you’re playing Stardew Valley, you may hear tales of people finding “Mystery Boxes”. These boxes will only appear in your game if you see a cutscene of Mister Qi flying over Pelican Town and carpet-bombing the town with blue boxes. These are Mystery Boxes and can be found by doing… pretty much anything.
You can get Mystery Boxes in Stardew Valley by doing the following activities:
- Killing a monster
- Digging up artifact or worm spots
- Chopping trees
- Mining
- Fishing Treasure Chests
- A reward for Trout Derby and SquidFest
- By opening a Mystery Box (which will give you two Mystery Boxes)
- As a prize in Mayor Lewis Prize Box
Interestingly, I’ve found the most Mystery Boxes by simply chopping trees around the farm. This may make chopping trees the most farmable option if you’ll forgive the pun. Once you have a Mystery Box, you’ll need to go to Clint the Blacksmith on the far east side of town, just above the museum. Speak to him and select “process geode” to open the Mystery Box. You’ll have to pay 25 Gold to open each Mystery Box. And there are quite a few possible items you can find within.

Mystery Boxes aren’t the only thing that requires a bit of luck. The same can be said for carrots, which only appear in the spring (or under unique circumstances), and broccoli, which only appears in the fall.
