With glaives getting a bit of a nerf, swords are back on the table as a go-to close-range option. And few swords cut as finely as Throne Cleaver. But the path to getting this blade (and its God Roll) isn’t obvious now that the Season of Opulence is through. Here’s how to get the Throne-Cleaver in Destiny 2.
How to Get the Throne-Cleaver and its God Roll in Destiny 2
In a looter-shooter like Destiny, a sword just hits different, literally, and Throne-Cleaver is one of those swords that every knight-errant should have. But getting it can prove difficult unless you know what you’re doing.
Initially released during the Season of Opulence, the Throne-Cleaver was retired for a period along with the Menagerie you could claim it from. But with the Season of Defiance comes a new way to obtain it… If you happen to be the right class.
To obtain it, you’ll need Season of Defiance Engrams, which can be obtained by completing Bounties received from the War Table in the H.E.L.M. These engrams can then be decrypted into Season of Defiance weapons or armor… and a class-related sword. So, Titans rejoice, because that sword is the Throne-Cleaver.
Warlocks will get Death’s Razor, and Hunters will get Goldtusk.
If you’re not sure how to decrypt it, make sure you have two Season of Defiance Engrams. Interact with the Wart Table, then select Defiant Engram Decoding. Then look beneath Focused Decoding and select Recovered Leviathan Weapons. You’ll have a chance of getting either the Imperial Decree Shotgun or your class-related sword.

Now, how do you get its God Roll?
Throne-Cleaver’s God Roll in Destiny 2
Throne-Cleaver is a fantastic PvE weapon, but it’s not craftable. That means you’ll have to farm it through the H.E.L.M War Table if you’re looking for a specific roll.
But the God Roll for boss-slayer Throne-Cleaver is:
- Basic Blade → Jagged Edge. Increased damage at the cost of sword ammo.
- Basic Guard → Heavy Guard. Sword guard has high overall defenses, but lowers charge rate.
- Basic Trait 1 → Shattering Blade. If your heavy attack consumes the last of your ammo, it deals significantly increased damage.
- Basic Trait 2 → Counterattack. Blocking an attack immediately after guarding increases damage for a short duration.
With this build, it’s a good idea to have a heavy ammo finder mod on your helmet, as you’ll almost always be out of heavy ammo. But the damage is worth it.
