How to Get Turtle Shells in Sons of the Forest

As the name may suggest, you can get turtle shells from turtles! While sure, saying that makes it sound like a cakewalk, there are a few things to note.

Unlike cannibals and regular wildlife, turtles don’t spawn in abundance. Fortunately, they’re not rare creatures to encounter, and there are multiple locations around the map to explore. Even if you’re in the early game and just recently escaped the initial helicopter crash, you can spot a few turtles near each crash site.

To get turtle shells specifically, you’ll want to head to a beach. The beach crash site is a good spot for this, but any coastline along the ocean will do. Turtles located inland will give raw meat instead.

Obtaining Shells From Turtles

Now, here’s where things get a little dark. Once you find some sea turtles, you’ll have to beat them and use your knife to harvest their shells. As mentioned, make sure you’re hunting along the beach rather than the mountain, or the turtles will give you meat instead. After obtaining a shell, it’ll appear in your inventory for safekeeping, where you can either equip it or use it for building.

Sons of the Forest is available on PC through Steam.
