Last Epoch is full of items for you to pick up as you tear through enemies across time, and naturally, you want to Salvage them for extra parts. However, the crafting process is a bit different in this ARPG and I’m here to outline how it works.
How to Salvage Gear in Last Epoch
Items can be Salvaged with a Rune of Shattering in the Forge screen of Last Epoch. Without one of these Runes, there is no way to deconstruct any of the equipment you find. Vendors and Forges are useless without the item, so don’t waste your time looking for the right services. I would even recommend carefully choosing which items you pick up in the game because most of them can’t be broken down for spare parts.
Once you get your hands on a Rune of Shattering, open the Forge crafting menu with “F” and select the item you want to Salvage. With the item in the center of the Forge, choose the Rune of Shattering and confirm your choice. All of the Affix Shards and any Glyphs associated with the gear will be returned to your inventory. You can then place these in your crafting bag or make use of them for a completely different item.
Before you put all your eggs in one basket, remember that these Runes can’t be used on Unique or most Legendary gear. The main purpose is to use them on rare equipment with at least one Affix you need for your build.
How to Get Runes of Shattering in Last Epoch
You can get Runes of Shattering from any major town vendors with Gold. These vendors naturally refresh over time and you can easily town-hop to get more. Otherwise, you can find Shattering Runes by simply grinding out end-game content.
Early in Last Epoch, any Runes of Shattering are harder to come by. To Salvage all the gear you find would be nearly impossible and I highly recommend holding onto the ones you stumble upon. They become easier to find later on, but you want as many as you can get if you plan on having the perfect set of Affixes at max level.
For the best gear possible, don’t forget to start looking for Legendary Potential.
