Last Epoch is a new player that joins the ARPG table, and many players are inevitably led to compare it to Diablo 4 and Path of Exile. Well, is Last Epoch similar to D4 or PoE? Is it better or worse? Let’s find out.
Are There Any Similarities Between Last Epoch, Diablo 4, and Path of Exile?
Undoubtedly, there are similarities between Last Epoch, Diablo 4, and Path of Exile. They are in the same genre of games, after all. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to establish this. However, from my point of view:
- Diablo 4 is, in general, more suitable for the casual audience (it seems that’s the route Blizzard’s been taking for a long time now to appeal to more players who do not have endless hours available to play video games every day).
- Path of Exile is, on the other hand, more suitable for the hardcore audience in general. And that’s what, sadly, has driven me away from playing the game more. I feel I’d have to focus on PoE only to accomplish the desired results.
This is derived from the complexity of the game mechanics, the time needed to “grind things out,” and the general feel of the game.
Based on the impressions so far, Last Epoch is somewhere in between, at least from a game mechanic perspective. I’d refrain from commenting on other aspects of the game, at least until the full release happens.
What’s Better; Last Epoch, Diablo 4, or Path of Exile?
A saying goes: “A thousand folks, a thousand minds.”
The “right” answer for a player will solely depend on the preferences, needs, and affinities built throughout the player’s gaming career. We live in a world where there’s less and less objectivity every day, so you should at least try Last Epoch and see if it’s the right game for you.
There’s no doubt that generally speaking, Last Epoch will be a good game based on the indicators so far.
Is it Worth Trying Last Epoch?
It most definitely is a title you should try out. Please note that Steam has a decent refund policy, and you can certainly take Last Epoch for a spin for under two hours before asking for a refund if you don’t like the game.
