If you’ve poked around the Underdark, there’s a very good chance that you’ve stumbled across a bald gnome neck-deep in trouble. That’s Baelen, and he’s in dire need of his bag. But where in Faerun is Baelen’s bag in Baldur’s Gate 3? Here’s how to find it.

How to Find and Give Baelen His Bag in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baelen is an amnesiac mushroom-gathering gnome that you can find in the Underdark. And while his gruff wife doesn’t care if he lives or dies, if you’d like to help him see another day, you’re going to have to get him his bag. Here’s how to find Baelen’s Bag.

To the left of Baelen, just below the torch, is his bag.

It’s very hard to see because it blends into the environment. But Baelen needs this bag because it contains a Scroll of Misty Step, which will help him get away from the dangerous, toxic, exploding mushrooms.

But now that you’ve seen his bag, how do you get it to the gnome? There are a few methods.

Method 1

Very carefully walk around the mushrooms to get to the bag and throw it to him. I don’t recommend this, as these mushrooms are very easy to trigger. Alternatively, you can jump to the mushrooms if you have an Enhanced Leap ability. But, still, this is the worst option.

Alternatively, you can use your own Misty Step or Dimension Door to get to Baelen’s bag.

If you do manage to get to the bag without triggering anything, you can then throw Baelen his bag. He’ll then use the Scroll of Misty Step to get away from the area.

Method 2

You can stand exactly where you’re at, on the edge of the mushroom field, and use Mage Hand to pick up Baelen’s Bag and throw it to him. Mage Hand is an early Cantrip that Bards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards can learn.

Just summon it, then command it to pick up and throw the bag to Baelen.

Of course, I dive into a whole variety of ways to get Baelen to safety without using his bag in the guide above. And those methods, frankly, served me much better than the ones listed here. I exploded Baelen quite a few times experimenting with methods. But go with whatever option feels best and suits your playstyle.
