Metal Gear Solid Delta, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 had a lengthy gameplay reveal during the Xbox Showcase 2024, and we finally have more details about what kind of features we can expect from the reimagining. One of the major changes is the shift in the camera perspective, bringing the PS2 release closer to something like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, however, fans will be happy to know that you can switch back to the legacy camera in Metal Gear Solid Delta.
Legacy Camera Confirmed for Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
On the official website of Metal Gear Solid Delta, and a recent Legacy Series video, it is confirmed that the game has the legacy style available for players who want to use the original release’s camera perspective.
If you aren’t used to that perspective though, the game’s camera has been reworked completely for modern third-person play.
In the Legacy Series Part 2 video, Noriaki Okamura, producer on the series and this new release, confirmed in an interview with David Hayer, that the gameplay is the same as the original, but to accommodate the new generation of gamers, they’ve gone ahead and modernized the visuals, controls, and general game-feel.
He insists that they aren’t trying to change the core of the gameplay, and are being faithful to the original 2004 release. So far, they’re saying all the right things here, and it’s the kind of remake I’d like for a game as special as this. Changing it too much wouldn’t work in its favor, which is why they’re making it clear it’s largely a visual uplift that comes with quality-of-life features, and modernized controls.
We’ve had plenty of excellent remakes of the past few years including Resident Evil 4: Remake, Dead Space Remake, and the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Dead Space Remake is the closest thing here, as it was largely a visual uplift with some modernization.
