The Wandering Wight is one of the toughest mini-bosses in the early areas of Black Myth: Wukong and shows up in Chapter One. He has a massive health bar, hits hard and fast, and does serious damage, finishing off the Destined One in one or two hits. Here is how you can beat the Wandering Wight in Black Myth Wukong early on in the game.
Black Myth Wukong Boss Guide: Wandering Wight
The Wandering Wight is an optional boss fight that you can initiate in chapter one. If you’re coming to him from a later stage in the game, he isn’t as difficult, but if this is your first time going through the area, you basically have to learn his moveset entirely and rely on perfect dodges a lot.
Before entering his “arena,” make sure to beat the three enemies in your path. This will fill up your focus points. Upon entering the arena, start the fight by using the focused charged heavy attack, which will put him in a “crying” state.
Continue with a light combo, and if you manage to fully land it, there’s a chance he’ll actually drop down. By this point, you’ve already gotten him down to around 75% of his health. You can also potentially drop him again by making a charged heavy attack during the fight when he isn’t in the attack animation.
His most devastating attack is a series of smash AOE attacks that cause an earthquake around him. The first time he hits the ground, you have three options. You can either jump backward and make a run for it. Perfect dodge the attack to gain focus, and then create some distance, or use a focused heavy attack to interrupt the sequence entirely.
Right after finishing the earthquake attack, he’ll do this palm energy attack which has a lot of range. You must dodge this, and it doesn’t damage you if you move into after dodging. However, if you get hit before dodging, it’ll do tons of damage.
Maintaining distance is a valid strategy in this fight. You can basically move in for a quick hit or combo and create some distance. Don’t try to engage him with low health, and feel free to heal yourself.
We highly recommend beating Guangzhi first so you can get his transformation. This will give you an additional health bar to work with and some devastating attacks. Just make sure to save it for a tricky part. You also have the Immobilize spell, which can stop the Wandering Wight in its place, and it’s very useful if you want to make sure your charged heavy attack hits.
Your main goal with the fight is to keep dodging to build up focus, and do devastating damage with the charged attack. This fight early on is a test peserverance and moveset mastery, because you’re at very low health, and aren’t strong enough to take more than a couple of direct hits.
Wandering Wight Rewards
Upon defeating the Wandering Wight, you’ll receive the following rewards;
- Cat’s Eye Beads – Curio that increases the chance of critical hits
- 761 Will
- Yarn x3
- 1049 XP
- Blood of the Iron Bull
His spirit will be dropped as well but you can’t absorb the spirit without guidance just yet. Apart from facing the Wandering Wight, there is a lot to do in the first chapter of Black Myth: Wukong, including the three bells that reveal a secret surprise encounter for players looking for even more loot.
