How to Find and Get Coal in Palworld

Resources are the quiet lifeblood of Palworld. Without them, you starve, you get one shot, you fail to catch the Pal of your dreams. And coal is no different. In fact, it’s the resource that lets you level up your gear from “just okay” to “good”. Because no matter how good that Pelt Armor might look, there’s no debate that it’s like tissue paper when you’re facing down a Syndicate Crusher.

Fortunately, Coal is easy to find. You can find it in any desert region, including the Desiccated Desert to the North of the Investigator’s Fork waypoint. Another option is to the North, where you can find a sprawling desert region with plenty of coal to mine.

Coal is distinguished by its black hue. Though, in certain lighting, it can be hard to tell apart from standard stone. But if you need a lot of Coal, there’s only one place to go.

How to Farm Coal Fast and Fun in Palworld

Coal respawns over time. And so, it’s very easy to farm. The best place to farm Coal in the game is undoubtedly at the top of the mountain near the PIDF Tower. Here, there are half a dozen coal spawns all close together.

And while it’s a pain to get to the top of the mountain, it’s well worth it. Because not only does it unlock a waypoint, but it also gives you a good jump point to see one of the three Black Marketeers.

Just to the west of the PIDF Tower Entrance waypoint is a Secret Mineshaft where a Black Marketeer peddles his wares. But there’s also a static coal spawn in the Black Marketeers chamber. So, once you’re done mining at the top of the mountain, jump down to find the Secret Mineshaft, peruse the wares, rinse and repeat. Soon you’ll have thousands of coal, and all the Refined Ingot you might ever dream of.

Building a Coal Farm in Palworld

If you want to better automate the coal farming process in Palworld, you can set up a Base beside a cluster of Coal deposits and have your Pals do the work for you. A good place to do this is at coordinates (190, -38), near the Mossanda Forest waypoint. This location not only has six Coal deposits for your pals to endless chip away at but also six Ore deposits that can be farmed simultaneously.

To set up a Coal farm, you’ll want to:

  1. Place a Palbox down in the middle of several Coal deposits. You want to make sure all the Coal deposits are sitting within the Palbox’s blue radius.
  2. Place some chests around the Coal deposits. Your Pals will use these chests to drop the mined Coal into.
  3. Set up some beds for your Pals as well as a food box, a sauna, and a berry plantation.
  4. Place appropriate Pals in the Base. You’ll mostly want Pals that are suitable to mine—Digtoise is the best choice for this thanks to its Partner Skill—but you’ll also need a few Pals who can transfer the Coal to chests and a few who can work on the Berry Plantation to provide themselves with food.
  5. Assign your Pals to work. You can throw Pals at the tasks you want completed to manually assign them to work, but they should also automatically find and do the work they’re suited for.

Once all this is set up, your Palworld Pals should be able to endlessly farm Coal for you. You’ll just need to check in every once in a while to make sure none of your Pals are sick or injured.
