Where to Find the Spear of Night in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Spear of Night is in the Gauntlet of Shar Treasure Room, connected to the Silent Library. Enter the library, defeat the enemies, and find the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger book on one of the bookshelves. Insert this book on the Riddle of the Night pedestal behind the library’s Iron Portcullis to access the Treasure Room and find the Spear of Night.

You’ll also find various traps along the floor of the Silent Library, which you can disarm or carefully avoid stepping on as you’re exploring the area.

How to Find the Silent Library

To find the Silent Library, travel north from the Gauntlet of Shar Waypoint, past the two trial rooms, until you find a set of stairs. Descend them and go down the hall until you reach the coordinates (X: -743, Y: -751). Approaching the library and walking through its shrouded entranceway will silence your character and block you from casting spells with verbal components.

When you first enter the library, you’ll fight against several undead Justiciars and the Librarian spawn portal in the center. Take out this portal first so more enemies don’t appear throughout the battle.

After you defeat them all, you can move around the library without interruptions. Just be careful of traps!

Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger Book Location

To get the Spear of Night, find the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger book and place it on the pedestal past the Iron Portcullis. The book is on a bookshelf at coordinates (X: -771, Y: -745). Interacting with the row of books will initially cause an acid splash to appear before you can open it again to find the book.

Spear of Night Location

Once you have the Nightsinger book on hand, lockpick the nearby Iron Portcullis to find the Riddle of the Night pedestal in the room’s center. Interact with the pedestal and place the book inside to open the west wall, allowing you to enter the treasure room and find the Spear of Night.

After you finally find the Spear of Night, you’ll need to make sure you fully participate in all the Gauntlet of Shar’s challenges before moving on. The Spear of Night is meant to be used on the Nightsong, but you won’t be able to get to her until you’ve collected enough Umbral Gems to take the main floating platform down to Shadowfell. This means completing the three Trials of Shar and dealing with Raphael’s enemy, Yurgir. Luckily there’s still plenty more loot to collect as you make your way through the rest of Gauntlet of Shar, both before and after you find the Spear of Night.

Here’s a list of other loot you can get in the Gauntlet of Shar

  • Shar’s Blessing: If Shar allows it, use this spear to kill Nightsong.

The Spear of Night is a rare spear that deals 3-10 base damage and additional Piercing damage. Proficiency with the weapon grants you the Rush Attack cantrip, allowing you to charge forward, damage enemies, and knock them off balance. It also features the Shar’s Blessing effect, allowing you to kill a particular NPC. This spear weighs 1.35 pounds and can be sold for 190 gold.

How to Get the Upgraded Selune’s Spear of Night

After you obtain the rare version of the Spear of Night, progress through the dungeon until you encounter the Nightsong. Here, you must decide whether to kill or spare the Nightsong; choosing to spare her will result in you getting Selune’s Spear of Night, a more powerful, legendary version of the Spear of Night.

Tip:

Killing Nightsong is Shadowheart’s evil path. Players wanting to steer her on the path of good should consider sparing Nightsong instead. Furthermore, allowing Balthazar to take the Nightsong away will cause Shadowheart to permanently leave the party.

However, you won’t get the spear right away. After sparing Nightsong, you must finish the assault on Moonrise Towers and head back to your camp. You can speak to Nightsong, who’ll reward Shadowheart with Selune’s Spear of Night.
