When you first begin Remnant 2, you’re met with a short mission followed by the need to meet everyone around Ward 13, the hub for your character for the remainder of the game. Following your interaction with Founder Ford, you’re tasked with going to meet Wallace out by the dock. When you meet him, he’ll present you with a choice of which Archetype you’d like to start with. That choice can be rather daunting at first, though I’m here to help. Here’s which Archetype you should choose in Remnant 2.
What Class Should I Play As in Remnant 2?
When you begin the game, you’re presented with four different Archetypes to choose from (five if you pre-ordered). These are the Medic, Handler, Challenger, and Hunter Archetypes. Each Archetype has its own set of passive buffs, combined with its own abilities for you to choose from. You can select one of these abilities at any given moment to use in combat, unlike other games where you’re given a few abilities and an ultimate. You can swap to other Archetypes later when you unlock them if you’d like, however, you’ll need to play the game for a good while.
While we could say that you should choose based on playstyle and call it a day, that’s not what we’re going to do here. Instead, I want to steer you in the right direction based on what might be best for you. With that in mind, I advise against running the Hunter unless you’re in a party already. You need people to distract on the frontlines for ranged combat to be effective, and you’re not going to get much of that when playing solo.
What is the Best Archetype in Remnant 2?
As for the other three starting classes, this will depend entirely on your position. The Handler is likely the best class you can pick for solo play thanks to the added dog companion that can resurrect you when the going gets tough. The Challenger is another great choice (if slightly better for co-op play) thanks to their tanky nature and the ability to resist death every once in a while. The Medic stands as a good middle ground between both, being great for solo play thanks to its immense healing, and great for teamplay since they can heal their teammates in a pinch. If it were my choice, I’d go with Medic thanks to that well-rounded nature, but that’s totally up to you.

Again, you’ll be able to experiment with the other Archetypes thanks to the Engrams you can purchase from different vendors. You can also get a second Archetype to pair with it, meaning you could run a Handler and Medic combo for some insane solo-play potential.
